I was reading this article on Bawbag's site and it got me thinking.
Like most sane minded individuals I also get frustrated with the chaos caused by public parades through our city centres. This is especially true when they are of a "delicate nature". In Glasgow last year we were treated to over 300 Orange Parades. That's almost one a day. Whilst I find the The Orange Order divisive in the search for an all inclusive society I reluctantly accept their right to march. And before anyone accuses me of having an agenda I am also against the Republican marches which intermitently stain our city streets, but again I accept their right to march.
Anyway...as the organisations involved believe that it is their god given right to march I propose a solution which I'm sure will be acceptable to all decent minded citizens.
The Davenelli solution...
Let them march but on our terms. Unicef currently estimates that there are around 110million landmines laid in 64 different countries around the world. Some of these countries are only a short flight away from here (Bosnia & Croatia). I say if these people want to march let's send them to march on these mine fields. This is a win/win situation. You and I will not be disrupted whilst going about our business whilst the world gets a landmine clearing solution. Simple.
I'm sure that I'll receive hate mail on this one so don't be surprised if this article is pulled.
