I Don't Get It...

Ok, I've tried not to get drawn into this one but fuck it. I am once again amazed at the double standards employed by our politicians.
First we had the invasion & occupation of Iraq over non-existent WMD and now we have Britain and The USA choosing to "look the other way" whilst Israel bombs the shit out of The Lebanon. Each day that passes brings more destruction, mounting civilion casualties and destablisies an already volatile area of the world. Would the situation be different if Lebanon had a wealth of oil? I think so.
In his weekly radio address President Bush stressed the importance of "confronting the terrorist group (Hezbollah) that launched the attacks and the nations that support it."
Yes we all agree that terrorism is repellent in every way, however, I fail to see how you can blame The Lebanon for the existance of Hezbollah. This would be the equivalent of Britain bombing Dublin because of the existance of The PIRA.
The latest casualty figures state that in excess of 350 Lebanese have been killed whilst Israel is down 34, of which 15 were civilians.
Thousands of people have been trying to leave southern Lebanon and the United Nations warns of a humanitarian crisis.
Its humanitarian chief is en route to Beirut, as the UN seeks to secure safe routes out for fleeing civilians.
The UN's Jan Egeland said half a million people needed assistance - and the number was likely to increase.
One-third of the recent Lebanese casualties, he said, appeared to be children. Children for fucks sake. How can this be justifed?. For President Bush to allow this to continue is shameful.
Why is Israel continually allowed to act with impunity? Throughout the troubled history of the middle east it regularly finds itself in the role of the aggressor.
Davenelli's solution...
George W. informs Israel that the significant aid package it receives from Uncle Sam is suspended until they learn to play nice with the other kids. Between 1973 & 2001 Israel received $240 billion in aid from the US.
I expect to get shot down (excuse the pun) over this post. As I am no expert in middle eastern politics I am happy to be educated, though I doubt that anyone can but up a decent argument to justify this situation.

This is a red hot issue for me too. Why no raging torrent of empathy for the downtrodden and forgotten in this Davenelli-sent opportunity for strident outrage? Perhaps because we seriously suspect no politician in any 'democracy' really gives a tinker's fart what we, the people, are actually moved by, and what kind of world we want live in. So, those that have been elevated to their ivory towers by the 'X' driven democratic process confidently gardyloo those of us stuck down here making an honest living and trying to do the right thing.
