1991 and I am employed in The Arts. Working in the office with me is a drama student around my age. To me she is one of the prettiest girls I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and she does a wonderful line of self deprecating humour. As she is studying she only works part-time and I have to say I miss her when she is not there.
We get along well and share similar interests in film, theatre, music and books. The usual stuff you place too much importance on and discuss when you’re 20. Unlike me she is driven and has a desire to succeed whilst I am happy to just float along on the wind seeing where the world takes me. It would be correct to say we were friends.
After a few safe lunches together I finally pluck up the courage to ask her out on “a date”. Sadly it became apparent that the young lady did not view me in quite the way I thought she did, and politely declined my invitation insisting that we remain friends.
Being 20 my despair at rejection lasted around 48 hours. I guess I've always been shallow. Shortly afterwards I moved on to another venue and we lost touch.
Fast forward fifteen years to 2006 and I am watching Children’s Television with my kids. Not being a fan of TV I feign interest in the hugely popular show until a face I recognise appears on screen. Lo and behold it’s the young lady who blew me out a decade and a half ago. Turns out she has achieved her goal.
Me…well I’m still waiting to figure out just what my goal may be.

And I have to say it's true what they say about how you look on TV...

I was trolling through old news stories the other day and discovered that an X of mine went on to be the man behind the 'Wee Me' phenomena used on MSN messenger etc.
That is definately cooler than being on children's TV - although I'm not quite sure why.
And what do they say about how you look on TV?
Hmmmmm... all of my ex's are bitter failures. I love it!!! Well, one went on to play professional football and was on tv but that was for only 1 season. He wasn't called back. Another one turned gay (not because of me). One is unemployed and living with his parents again.
