On this day 1776 America gained independence from Great Britain and so the "American Dream" was born.
This dream has been vigorously pursued by immigrants from many nations (including my own) over the last two centuries with varying degress of success.
I have always judged a nation on the quality of its' people. Having had the privilege of spending time with a number of fine Americans, as well as one or two assholes, then I would have to say that I quite like the USA and would consider it to be a friend.
Unfortunately, as with all friends, it does have one or two habits that drive me insane and a few that I find utterly disgusting but it would be churlish to list them here.
I may in time dedicate more postings to the Land Of The Free but tonight I will content myself with merely saying...
Happy Birthday!

Thanks for the Birthday wishes. Too bad more Americans aren't like me. I have no filthy or disgusting habits and am practically perfect in every way.
Happy belated birthday to Big Sammy.
Enjoy this wee musical tribute.

wow, thanks, D!
it's just like anywhere, I guess. I look at it this way, I grew up right outside of
Chicago (a town), and I know ass-holes of every race, creed and national origin.
