I had the good fortune to catch the end of a concert on Sunday night by Martin Stephenson. Now I've seen Martin live many times before but I must confess I haven't been to one of his shows for at least a decade.
I was stuck on Sunday evening by how much the feted Jack Johnson sounds like Martin Stephenson. From the guitar style right down to the vocal affectations the similarities were right there. It then hit me just how unfair the music industry could be.
Martin Stephenson has been making fine albums for 20+ years with little commercial success whilst Jack Johnson strolls in makes a couple of albums and is hailed as a musical genius.
Anyway the point of this post is that if you get the chance to catch Martin Stephenson live you should do so. He is tremendous value for money and between songs he will amuse you with tales of rock and roll excess. At a show I caught around 1990 he told a story about Michelle Shocked which I could not possibly relay here as it is undoubtedly libelous.
As I said check him out.
Albums can be purchased at Amazon and I would recommend Gladsome, Humour & Blue, Salutation Road or Boat To Bolivia to start with or better still there is an excellent collection available called There Comes A Time.

I've never heard of the guy, but that doesn't surprise me, I know nothing about music. I went to the site but didn't find any audio links.
The MP3's can be located on the site at

Now that was a name I had forgotten all about. Thanks for bringing him back to me Dave.
Music will be purchased and iPod will be updated.
Why not put an Amazon or an iTunes affiliate button on your blog so you can get paid for your recommendations? Just a thought........
