Popular Myth Exposed

I'm going to keep things simple and low key tonight. This post will be low on gags and anger but it will give a little away about myself.
Obviously by now the sharper amongst you will have established that my first name is David, however, I prefer Dave.

A number of you on discovering this have assumed that my surname is therefore Nelli. Sorry to disappoint you all but this is not the case althought Nelli would make a decent enough surname.

So I hear you ask where did the alter ego Davenelli come from?

A good question and one I'm happy to answer. Since around the age of 7 I have regularly played football (soccer for the readers accross the pond) at varying levels. Aged around 13/14 my hair started to turn from it's natural brown to a strange silver colour. This process continued until my early 20's by which time my hair was completely grey.

Around this point I was still turning out regularly for my local team and receiving a fair ammount of abuse for my grey hair. That was until the man in the photograph appeared on the scene playing for Italian giants Juventus. Fabrizio Ravanelli (for it is he) was a star man for both his club and his nation representing them on 22 occassions. Like me his hair had also aged prematurely (I'd guess he must be around 24/5 in the photograph) and we both played the same position.

My quick witted team-mates immediately decided that instead of Ravanelli I should be known as Davenelli and it's stuck ever since.

I'd just like to finish off tonight by remembering my late father as he passed away five years ago today. Cheers Jimmy it was a blast while it lasted ;)

Ahhhhhhh! Now we know! I have wondered where the name came from.

The last paragraph took me by surprise. I cried!

I'll say a 'Slainte' for Jimmy with a good single malt. Well loved and always remembered.
